You can now use multiple WhatsApp accounts simultaneously on Android

WhatsApp has announced a new feature that will allow Android users to access two accounts simultaneously on the same device.

In a move that will benefit users who need to separate their personal and work communications, the popular messaging platform can now be logged into with two different phone numbers at the same time.

According to WhatsApp's official blog post on Thursday, October 19, "Today, we're introducing the ability to have two WhatsApp accounts on Android logged in at the same time. Helpful for switching between accounts - such as your work and personal - now you no longer need to log out each time, carry two phones or worry about messaging from the wrong place."

To set up a second WhatsApp account, users will need a second phone number and SIM card, or a device that supports multi-SIM or eSIM technology.

The process is simple - users just need to open WhatsApp settings, click the arrow next to their name, and select "Add account".

Privacy and notification settings can also be controlled separately for each account.

As WhatsApp notes in its blog, "You can control your privacy and notification settings on each account."

The new dual-account functionality, according to WhatsApp, marks a major improvement in usability for the messaging platform.

It observed that juggling multiple phone numbers was cumbersome, often requiring logging out and back in or using separate devices. Now, Android users can seamlessly switch contexts without hassle.

It's important to note that for security reasons, only the official WhatsApp app should be used.

As a reminder, the company cautions that "only use the official WhatsApp and don't download imitations or fake versions as a way of getting more accounts on your phone. Your messages are only secure and private when using the official WhatsApp."
